There are quite a few things I don’t understand, but that doesn’t make them stupid.


Pokemon Go.


Star Wars.

Skinny jeans.

All of these things are confusing to me. When I see a social media post about them, I don’t take the time to click or learn more or even feign any interest.

I’m not closed minded, I learn about a lot of new things, but my thought today is that whatever you’re into…I appreciate your interest, but don’t be offended if I don’t want to participate.

Too many of us have the “internet troll” mindset which is that if you don’t agree with me, you’re stupid.

There’s one pretty common level of that which is: if you don’t get on board with what I like, then you’re stupid and you don’t get it. But the second level can really stir up a lot of anger: oh wait, you don’t hate what I hate, then you’re just as bad as what I hate!

Come on people. Where is your basic human decency? Can you not just silently say to yourself, “well, he’s not a guy that I’m going to be great friends with”?

I’m not going to wear skinny jeans, but I’ll go out with people who do. And I’ll probably give you a hard time about it.

I’m probably not going to watch Star Wars with you, but we can still have a beer and I’ll tell you that I like the Cantina song from the original movie.

I won’t download or play Pokemon Go, but go make yourself happy. You’re probably getting more exercise than me.

I don’t hate Donald and I don’t hate Hillary. That doesn’t mean that I’m in love with either one of them, nor does it mean that you and I can’t be friends…unless you’re incapable of talking about anything else.

My eyes will glaze over if you want to talk about sports-ing of any kind. Football, basketball, soccer, baseball, hockey, whatever. But if that’s your thing, hopefully it’s not your ONLY thing.

Bottom line: Get the chip off your shoulder. Stop being a victim. Stop thinking that if I’m pro-something it means that I’m anti-something’s opposite. I’m probably not. We might just get along. Maybe.
